To be honest with you, I passed over the birdie ball at a local golf shop 2 years ago because it looked ridiculous. There was no way a "ball" of this shape was going to react anything like a real golf ball. 2 years later, I'm glad I gave the birdie ball a fair shot.
The birdie ball is an amazingly accurate (although at a greatly diminished distance) replacement golf ball. It flies about 40 yards when smashed with a 5 iron but soars on a beautiful trajectory. The compression feel at impact is so true to the feeling of a golf ball, it is tremendous. Playing the Birdie ball off of natural turf gives you the best feeling at impact but the plastic strike pad also does a fair job when the taking of a divot is not advised (public park, asphalt, living room floor, etc).
Birdie balls give excellent feedback both on flight path (fade, draw, slice, hook) and quality of shot (thin, fat, or flush). When you make a good swing on the ball you will know immediately due to the compression feeling as well as audible feedback in the form of a turbine sound. The sound is really satisfying, almost like a long "BOIIIIINNG" sound. On thin shots or softer pitches and chips the Birdie ball makes little to no noise and flies almost the same distance as your normal pitch. Basically, the harder you hit it, the faster it spins and alternates between lifting and slowing down- giving that turbine sound.
This review is probably already long enough but trust me you will not regret this purchase as I have regretted a few golf purchases in the past. The Birdie ball is so much fun and so inexpensive given the amount of time you will want to practice with it. Forget the range, buy the Birdie ball.

BirdieBall is a limited flight practice golf ball. It looks like a "napkin ring" yet flies exactly like a golf ball. It has a limited distance of about 40 yards. It spins exactly like a golf ball, it is heavy, it draws, it fades, and it is fun.
